Will AI Make Us Stupid or Smarter? A Debate We Need to Have

Will AI make us stupid?

It is a question that is causing real debate right now.

Rob Moore, one of the most followed voices on LinkedIn, recently raised this concern in a powerful post about AI and thinking.

He argued that AI, if used badly, risks making us lazy, dependent and less capable of thinking for ourselves.

At Taylo AI, we believe it is a challenge worth facing head-on. We agree that technology used without care can harm more than it helps. But we also believe that when built with the right purpose, AI can be a force for good. Especially for those children who need it most.

This article opens the debate. Will AI make us stupid? Or can it help us think better, grow stronger, and fulfil more of our human potential?

Will AI Make Us Stupid?

It is a fear rooted deep in human nature.

When tools become too easy, we risk losing the skills they were designed to support. Rob Moore summed it up perfectly: if AI is used to shortcut thought, it will dull our ability to think deeply and creatively. If we rely on it to do our work for us, we will inevitably grow weaker, not stronger.

Examples are easy to find. Auto-complete messages. Instant summaries of complex topics. Quick fixes rather than meaningful learning. If used passively, AI could absolutely reduce the need for effort, curiosity and independent thought.

Will AI make us stupid? It certainly could. If we let it.

But that is not the whole story.

Can AI Help Us Think Better?

There is another side to this debate.

At Taylo AI, we are building technology designed not to replace thinking but to support and strengthen it. Our focus is on neurodivergent pupils, many of whom often feel misunderstood or left behind in traditional classrooms.

Taylo gets to know each pupil as an individual. It understands how they learn, how they process information, and where they need just the right amount of support. Crucially, Taylo never gives pupils the answers. Instead, it prompts, questions and guides them through their challenges.

In doing so, Taylo helps pupils build confidence, critical thinking skills and independence. It does not replace their thinking. It develops it.

Used with the right intent, AI can be a bridge to greater human potential, not a barrier.

Purpose-Led AI: The Real Game Changer

The real question is not whether AI will make us stupid.

The real question is whether we will design and use it with care.

Purpose-led AI is different. It does not aim to automate human beings. It aims to empower them. It acts as a scaffold, helping pupils reach higher than they could alone, without taking away their effort, ownership or growth.

At Taylo AI, every decision is guided by this principle.

We believe in building tools that respect individuality, nurture critical thinking, and foster resilience over time. Especially for pupils who need a champion that understands them.

AI is not good or bad by itself. It is the purpose behind it that makes all the difference.

Why Knowing the Pupil Matters

At the heart of Taylo is something simple but powerful.

Understanding.

By getting to know each pupil’s unique learning style, strengths and struggles, Taylo can offer guidance that feels truly personal. It adapts support to the individual, not the average. It helps neurodivergent pupils feel seen, supported and capable.

For a pupil who has often felt lost in the classroom, Taylo becomes the one that understands them and is always there for them. That is where the magic is.

Will AI make us stupid? Only if it forgets that behind every user is a person with a mind that deserves to grow.

Will AI Make Us Stupid? It Depends On How We Use It

So, will AI make us stupid?

The answer is not fixed. It depends entirely on how we design it, how we use it, and what we ask it to serve.

At Taylo AI, we are committed to building a future where AI strengthens thinking, not weakens it. Where every child has the chance to grow in confidence, independence and self-belief.

Especially those who have been too often overlooked.

We invite you to join the conversation. Which side of the debate do you stand on?
